Here’s a little about me:
I bring quite a diverse background to my current teaching roles. I have always been interested in spirituality, story and movement. I danced seriously from a very young age, and ended up at the Kirov Academy for high school, where I toured with the prestigious Russian dance company during 1994-1995. During my college years, I became more interested in theater and worked on dozens of stage productions, while majoring in French and running on the cross-country team. After college, I worked for ten years in non-profit organizations and international NGO’s, and gained a Master’s Degree in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary. Most notably, during this time, I worked on a U.S. Department of Justice program to bring prominent Muslim and Christian leaders together to transform conflict and promote mutual understanding post 9/11. Having children brought me full circle to my love for story, movement and spirit. I began re-exploring my long-dormant love for dance, teaching Zumba to adults and children. This led to working with children to explore stories, movement and music and I have been wonderfully supported by Silver Spring Day School, where I have been teaching for four years.
To support my work with children, I received a certification in Arts Integration from The Lucy School, in Frederick, Maryland, and a certification to teach yoga to children’s yoga from Yogafit for Kids. I am Yoga Alliance 200 hour certified for yoga instruction, and my “Unlock Your Imagination” training is approved by Montgomery County Department of Education for early childhood educators.
